CWRT MAJOR FUNDRAISING
Many CWRTs are interested in bringing the top-tier of Civil War historian/authors to their meeting, expand their battlefield preservation efforts or secure operational expenses. Some achieve their financial goals through a major fundraising effort. And yet, there are others that can do so without raising additional funds. This survey seeks to bring some clarity about fundraising among CWRTs.
Proven Practices
- The decision to hold a major fundraiser is dependent upon several factors including the following:
- Having a clear need for improved funding
- A distinct and easily articulated purpose
- Broad support from leaders and members
- A decent marketing strategy
- The fundraising method should be distinctly different than the usual book raffle, 50/50 drawing or meeting dinner.
- The best major fundraisers involve individuals and other organizations outs the CWRT for improved marketing, a broader community reach and appeal and a beneficiary that may or may not solely be the CWRT.
- Successful fundraisers may not be unique, but should be well-planned and executed by a broad range of members.
