This survey is a MUST READ for every CWRT. The candid remarks of CWRT speakers is a priceless commodity especially for those who can recognize their leadership, venue, equipment and audience in these descriptive pages. This survey is not intended to become a tell-all about a certain CWRT. It should be used as an overlay to determine if the many deficiencies experienced by everyday CWRT speakers are inherent in the examining CWRT.
Proven Practices
CWRT speakers gauge success through an enthusiastic response and an excellent conversation during the Q&A session. They also are interested in being invited back and having a large audience.
CWRT speakers ALWAYS
CWRT speakers delight in:
- Want proper AV equipment & tech support,
- Travel expenses paid,
- A table for selling/signing books,
- Large amount of publicity and
- For the CWRT to stay in touch prior to the event.
CWRT speakers delight in:
- Meeting members BEFORE the presentation,
- Having excellent questions during Q&A,
- A large and enthusiastic audience,
- Prompt payment of travel expenses,
- Multiple group presentations (be sure to clear it beforehand), and
- Tours of areas with which they are unfamiliar.
CWRTs should AVOID
CWRT speakers dread:
- Not remaining in touch with speakers,
- Not preparing an accurate introduction,
- Not paying travel expenses,
- Failing to market the event and
- Allowing malfunctioning AV equipment or incompetent tech support.
CWRT speakers dread:
- Confusion about the date and location of the presentation,
- Inappropriate lodging or no reservation,
- Poor or inaccurate introduction,
- Audience eating dinner during the presentation,
- A single member allowed to dominate the Q&A,
- A venue that is too hot, too cold, too noisy and/or otherwise not conducive to a presentation,
- Being treated without respect, and
- CWRT leadership unaware of the promises made during the contracting process.
